About the course
In modern times modularity and prefabrication have been associated with technological and material innovations, and yet it has its roots in many cultures from the past. This course explores prefabrication through the city lens – explaining the process in relation to dense urban environments, its application and potential design opportunities. It aims to break the stigma that modular construction is mostly monotonous, and rather can be climatically responsive and adaptable to yield character and identity. The course aims to introduce various best practices in industry and also explores combinations of volumetric and flat pack systems through a series of case studies. It will further explore reducing operational carbon footprint and optimizing building performance through the use of passive design.
