This Masterclass investigates traditional practices of design, construction and material production that are indigenous to the tropics; and their cultural relevance and contribution to eco-tourism. It further seeks to develop the concepts of passive design and resilience planning within the natural environment, balanced with the role cultural heritage plays in shaping local tourism economies.

The setting of Chiang Mai, Thailand, will form the backdrop to the course. Coursework includes core sustainable lectures in the mornings, walking tours in the afternoons and lateral lectures in the evenings. The workshop is a specially tailored ‘masterclass’ that will provide the participants’ onward understanding of the green agenda and enhance the individual’s skills base in industry. Participants will be required to attend all scheduled lectures and tours within the five days. A “Certificate of Completion” will be presented to each participant at the end of the course.
